This theory is based on the type of person you all know. The Jack Ass who doesn't realize everyone thinks they are a Jack Ass. Their only real friends continue on because they feel sorry for the subject. The rest of them are not really their friends and are just irritated with their existence. Every now and then the Jack Ass will find out that someone close to them does not like them. They then ask why the person feels this way. This moment of questioning is the closest they ever come to knowing the real truth. The instant an honest explanation is given the subject's ego quickly reassembles the information in their own favor.
