All I want for Xmas

KORG KAOSSILATOR

He snappily titled Kaossillator is the latest in Korg's range of Kaoss Pad-based products. The palm-sized unit is described by Korg as a 'dynamic phrase synthesizer', and is designed for "untrained musical enthusiasts", DJs and performers.
On-board the yellow-bodied Kaossillator are 100 synth programs, derived from Korg's Modelling Synthesizer Engine, as well as Kaoss Pad-derived effects. Patches include a swathe of what Korg call "classic" synth sounds, plus "faithfully simulated" piano, guitar and trumpet sounds, and one-shot drums.

A gate arpeggiator with 50 different patterns can also be called upon to create rhythmic sounds, at user-specified tempos, and pitched patches can be set to play in 31 different scales in any key. The Kaossillator also has a loop recording mode, with which the user can build up a two-bar loop, using the unit's variety of sound sources.

My kinda touring

Honda EVO 6 Concept:
"Take a flat-Six 1800cc Gold Wing motor, put it in a minimalist chassis and give it slick, modern styling—think manga by Morbidelli. There’s a single-sided swingarm and the usual electronic instrumentation... Honda uses its all-new 'Human-Friendly Transmission' or HFT. This may be a jump in transmission technology, using hydraulic pressure to efficiently transmit power. It offers a 'D' position for everyday riding (Driving?), an 'S' position (Sport?) for quicker acceleration and a six-speed manual mode, as well."

The Solution

Swobo Bikes
I wanted to get a road bike, but this might be the closest I can handle.

"The Sanchez is a $599 fixed-gear track bike outfitted with flat bars for the street and the no-brakes, no-coasting fixie groove, but it comes with a "flip-flop" freewheel-compatible hub and a fork drilled to take a front brake."

I'll puss out and get a front brake, because I'm not a hipster bike messenger. And the clincher is that there's a bottle opener in the seat. Here's a review in the Marin Independent.

Java Nap

Sleep: Reboot Your Brain with a Caffeine Nap
I've tried it and it works.
1. Right before you crash, down a cup of java. The caffeine has to travel through your gastro-intestinal tract, giving you time to nap before it kicks in.

2. Close your eyes and relax. Even if you only doze, you'll get what's known as effective microsleep, or momentary lapses of wakefulness.

3. Limit your nap to 15 minutes. A half hour can lead to sleep inertia, or the spinning down of the brain's prefrontal cortex, which handles functions like judgment. This gray matter can take 30 minutes to reboot.

RIP Colin McRae

The Times on Colin McRae
I didn't get to see him race much, but I do know he brought a lot to to rally racing and will be missed.
Colin McRae's tragic death last week has robbed motorsport of one of it's most charismatic and daring competitors...he will always be remembered for his titanic struggle with Spanish driver Carlos Sainz to become the first Briton to win the World Rally Championship in 1995 with an epic victory in the final round at the RAC Rally of Great Britain.

Nike + Stuff

Nike Amp - Josh Spear
Here's a kinda cool addition to the Nike+ line. I don't really wear watches and I use an iMojo wristband, but those weren't the case I would probably get this.
At its most basic, the Amp is just a watch; link it to a Nike equipped iPod Nano, and it becomes a full-on control station for your wrist. Integrated into the Amp are all the normal iPod controls that you’d find on your Nano. Press a button, and information scrolls visually across a series of otherwise hidden LED’s embedded just beneath the surface plastic above the controls.

10 points for the subey

2008 Forester Sports 2.5 XT
Motortrend did one of their Demon Tweaks on a 2006 Forrester with good results. Most, if not all, of these upgrades should be applicable. The Sports XT Forrester, off the lot, is about $28,800 after the addition of a short throw shifter, boost gauge, and a few other small additions.
Our debut guinea pig is a 2006 Subaru Forester 2.5XT Limited, a vehicle we’ve admired for its roomy interior and punchy, 224-hp turbocharged engine. Although that engine is the same one found in the barn-burning WRX, the Forester XT has a suspension that’s too soft for our tastes. The mission, therefore, was to sharpen the handling with different tires and a retuning of the suspension. More power is never a bad thing, so we also cranked up the engine by increasing the turbo boost via a reprogrammed engine computer.

Our three-stage sharpening of the Forester cost us $1745...

-Screen callers and ListenIn before accepting the call
-Protect your privacy by blocking annoying or uninvited callers

More Decisions...

Any suggestions? This one is going to be sooner. Factors considered: mpg, hp/wt, can it fit everyone(2 adults, 2 carseats(arghhh), 2 dogs...I know that some of the cars can't), is it the hotness(for one reason or the other)?, price (trying to keep it sub 30k)
Very Green, 50-ish mpg, small (but roomy for size), will fit all 4 and a poog (probably not a bullmastiff)
Honda Ridgeline, nice and big, we already have a pick up and a Landcruiser, 16/21 mpg
2008 Subaru WRX, new hatchback, 224 hp (but less weight), not the STi
Honda Element SC, 28 mpg, 4 seats (not 5), roomy, only 2wd

Ceiling height can affect how a person thinks, feels and acts
Now we can never move out of our house. Where are we going to be able to afford ceiling like this again?
"When a person is in a space with a 10-foot ceiling, they will tend to think more freely, more abstractly,” said Meyers-Levy. “They might process more abstract connections between objects in a room, whereas a person in a room with an 8-foot ceiling will be more likely to focus on specifics."
